Juliana Neuenschwander is a full professor of Sociology of Law at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and a level 1A fellow of the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). She holds a doctorate in Philosophy of Law from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (2000) and in Law and Social Evolution from the University of Lecce (2003). She completed postdoctoral fellowships at the Max Planck Institute for the History of European Law (2003-2004) and Birkbeck College, University of London (2018-2019). She is a permanent professor in the Postgraduate Program in Law at UFRJ and a collaborator in the Doctorate in Law and Innovation at the University of Macerata, Italy, and in the Master's and Doctorate programs in Human Rights at the Pablo de Olavide University, Spain. Her main books are "The Formation of the Concept of Human Rights" (2013) and "Formation of the Concept of Sovereignty" (2016). His next book, currently in preparation, is “The Past and Future of Indigenous Peoples in Brazil”. He recently published the articles “Contraddizioni e paradossi nelle periferie della modernità: alterità e appartenenza nel Brasile ottocentesc” (Rivista Sicurezza e Scienze Sociali, 2025) and “A Dimensão Ontológica do Antropoceno: Pensamento Ameríndio e Algumas Ideias para Adiar o Fim do Mundo” (Rivista Italiana di Filosofia Politica, 2023). Since 2005 he has coordinated the Law and Cinema Research Group. She is currently a member of the Center for Constitutional Studies at the Brazilian Supreme Federal Court (Supremo Tribunal Federal).
