Makoto Usami is Professor of Philosophy and Public Policy at Kyoto University and a visiting professor at the Technical University of Munich. He was formerly a visiting scholar at Harvard University and Professor of Law and Philosophy at the Tokyo Institute of Technology. He has served as the President of IVR Japan and the President of the Public Policy Studies Association Japan. He has extensively published on distributive justice, global justice, intergenerational justice, and climate justice, as well as human rights and the nature of rights, for many years. Usami is the author of four books and more than eighty journal articles and book chapters in English and Japanese, while having co-authored two textbooks and edited eight anthologies.
