Prof. Dr. Mehmet Tevfik Özcan served as a lecturer in the Philosophy of Law, Sociology of Law and History of Law at the Faculty of Law, Istanbul University. Following his undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Law, Ankara University (1981), he completed his master’s degree (1984) and PhD (1990) at the Institute of Social Sciences, Istanbul University. Mehmet Tevfik Özcan began working at the Faculty of Law, Istanbul University in 1986; he was appointed as an associate professor in 1998 and as a professor in 2009, retiring in 2025 upon reaching the mandatory retirement age. In addition to his other academic publications, the author has authored three published books: Social Control in Primitive Societies and an Introduction to the Sociology of Law and Modern Society and the Rule of Law.
Prof. Dr. Mehmet Tevfik Özcan, İstanbul Üniversitesi Hukuk Fakültesi’nde Hukuk Felsefesi, Hukuk Sosyolojisi ve Hukuk Tarihi öğretim üyeiliği yapmıştır. Ankara Üniversitesi Hukuk Fakültesi’nde tamamladığı (1981) lisans öğretimini takiben İstanbul Üniversitesi Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü’nde yüksek lisans (1984) ve doktora (1990) eğitimlerini tamamladı. Mehmet Tevfik Özcan 1986 yılından itibaren İstanbul Üniversitesi Hukuk Fakültesi’nde çalışmaya başladı ve 1998’de doçent, 2009 yılında profesör kadrosuna atanmış, 2025 yılında yaş haddinden emekli olmuştur. Yazarın başkaca akademik yayınlarına ek olarak, İlkel Toplumlarda Toplumsal Kontrol, Hukuk Sosyolojisine Giriş, Modern Toplum ve Hukuk Devleti başlıklarını taşıyan üç adet yayınlanmış kitabı bulunmaktadır.
